BJP takes coalition to task for pursuing discrimination
11/17/2010 9:11:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 17: The present NC-Congress coalition in the State has not shed the old policy and it still discriminates with Jammu despite repeated claims of treating Jammu at par with Kashmir.
This coalition is pursuing the policy of its predecessors to accord preferential treatment to Kashmir and deprive the Jammuites of what they too deserve.
This was alleged by BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas while expressing grave concern over the approach of the NC-Congress towards Jammu.Manhas, while citing recent example of discrimination with Jammu by the government, said that two years ago, a Jammuite, Prof. Deshbandhu Gupta, was posted as Chairman of J&K State Board of School Education. At the same time, one Bashir Ahmed Sheikh from Kashmir was posted as Secretary in the same Board.
The tenure of both the posts is two years. Prof. Deshbandhu Gupta has been honoured with certificate of honesty by the state government. On the other hand, there are number of complaints against Bashir Ahmed Sheikh before the Chief Minister as well as the concerned department. Just last month, both these officials completed their two years tenure. Ignoring the honesty of Prof. Deshbandhu Gupta, the government granted two years extension to Bashir Ahmed Sheikh despite the fact that cases of his involvement in corrupt practices are biting dust because he belongs to Kashmir and is close to the concerned minister. No one dares to think of any action against him. Manhas said this recent case has exposed the state Chief Minister and his colleagues in the cabinet, who make high claims of ending discrimination on the basis of religion. He said mere claims of treating Jammu equal can not befool the people of Jammu any more.
The Jammuites are aware of the hollow claims of the coalition government and they can not be misled any more.Manhas asked the State Chief Minister to cancel the extension granted to Bashir Ahmed Sheikh, prove his commitment of ending discrimination by ordering an inquiry into this case and ensure stern action those involved in shielding and favouring Bashir Ahmed Sheikh
