AIDS awareness Red Ribbon Express reach Udhampur | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur Nov 17 The Red Ribbon train, spreading awareness on AIDS by covering various destinations, reached Udhampur railway station today .Hundreds of school children and college students visited the train on day-1 of the three-day long exhibition on AIDS awareness being carried forward across the country by the Red Ribbon Express train. The Red Ribbon express is an initiative of the National Aids Control Organizations (NACO) in collaboration with National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Ministry of Railways, UNICEF, Hindustan, Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust and the Rajiv Gandhi foundation. Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, in his address, appealed to people to largely participate in the awareness drive for prevention of the dreadful disease. Stressing greater need to spread awareness and promote services on HIV/AIDS across the state among common masses. Inaugurating the Red Ribbon Express (RRE), a multi media supported exhibition on HIV/AIDS at Udhampur Railway station , the Minister said that elected public representatives, Anganwari workers, ASHA Workers, field functionaries of other departments and students should share their noble responsibility in spreading the message regarding prevention and control of dreaded disease, AIDS in their respective jurisdictions. Extending Eid greeting to the people of the state, the Minister said, “Let us strive together to make our society and country a healthy and prospers for achieving excellence in every field by leading our lives based on moral values”. Students of Shivalik BEd college also took out awareness rally in the city which after passing various markets culminated at railway station . Dr Vikram Gulati, Principal of college said that such exhibitions aim to evolve national response to HIV/AIDS in reducing and managing the impact of the epidemic in the world, which include to prevent transmission of HIV infection among workers and their families, protect rights of those who are infected and provide access to available care, support and treatment, protect workers from stigma and discrimination related to HIV/AIDS by assuring them equity and dignity at the workplace and ensure safe migration and mobility with access to information services on HIV/AIDS,.. The train consists of six coaches depicting cause of spreading of AIDS, preventive information and training in health care. The Exhibition on Train would remain open from November 17th to November 19th, 2010 at Railway station Udhampur.
