11/17/2010 9:37:41 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SAMBA, Nov 17: The new Bus Stand Samba, the construction of which was started few years ago, is yet to be made functional even after its completion couple of years ago. It has been abandoned as a mere show piece.
Only buses of State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) stop here. All other buses and do not bother to stop here even after the official orders.
Samba district authorities are in a deep slumber as far as functioning of the bus stand is concerned. The authorities directed that the bus stand should be started three months ago. Even then the bus stand is started till date.
The old bus stand is so crowded that the people and the vehicles operators are facing difficulties.
Construction on widening of National Highway is also going on the fast track and the shopkeepers of the area complained that the vehicles create a lot of chaos in the area. They further said that impact of traffic chaos and non-functioning of New Bus Stand is taking toll their businesses also.
What is worse is that the people coming for shopping used to park their vehicle on the roads.
Kuldeep Sharma, a local shopkeeper of that area said that from old bus stand one road lead to the bazaar and the other one goes to the border area. Both routes are very busy. He said that the crowded bazaar with the heavy rush of the buses at the old bus stand can result in any untoward incident.
It is pertinent to mention that the Deputy Chief Minister of the state Tara Chand on his visit to Samba directed the authorities to start the new bus stand about three months ago. But he authorities did not pay any heed to directions of Deputy Chief Minister.
DC Samba said that the district administration ordered to make the bus stand functional. But due to the construction work of the national highway the bus stand has not been made operational yet. After the completion of construction work, the bus stand would be made fully operational.
