SMVDU land compensation scam: CB receives more complaints | | | SUMIT SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 17: Eulogizing the crime branch (CB) initiative in unearthing the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) land compensation scam, revenue minister Raman Bhalla said no intervention would be made in the CB functioning in the case. The CB was given a free hand to book those who were found involved in the scam, he added. Meanwhile, more sufferers have approached the CB and lodged their complaints. The CB has made a list of the complainants, and to lodge a case in this connection, a meeting of senior CB officers was held. CB sources said after five days of meeting, a strategy was made to work out the case. Meanwhile, acting on inputs that efforts could be made to tamper with the record seized and kept at the office of deputy commissioner, Udhampur, a CB officer spoke to the minister who, in turn, assured to get the record shifted to Jammu, the sources added. Sources said during the scrutiny of the seized files, it was found that some of the record was missing. Sources said DC, ACR and other higher officers of tehsil Udhampur were not present in the office when the raid was conducted. The record was provided to the raiding team by the subordinate staff, the sources added. The scam was unearthed when some people lodged a complaint with CB, Jammu, alleging that they had not received compensation for the land acquired by SMVDU. On the basis of these complaints, a CB team led by SP Ranjeet Singh Sambyal, Inspector Anu Sharma and SI Javed Ahmed had conducted the raid and seized the record. During Cb investigation, it was found that SMVDU had acquired over 3,506 kanals and 6 marlas of land at Kakryal for the purpose of establishing university.An amount of Rs 8 cr was also granted to the revenue department for its disbursement as compensation by SMVDU on the behalf of J&K governor in 2002. |
