Six months on, Pacca Danga road awaits restoration

JAMMU, Nov 18: Even after passage of six months, the residents and traders of Pacca Danga area are yet to get any relief from the dug-up road as the macadamization of the road stretch from old General Post Office (GPO) building to Chowk Chabutra due to lack of coordination between the concerned government agencies.
Pacca Danga, famous for books and other stationery items, these days gives a shabby look largely due to the dilapidated condition of road as it was dug up around six months back.
With the digging of road, the people residing in the vicinity and shop owners have suffered a lot.
“The non-completion of work by NBCC is just like adding salt to our wounds. We are cursing the day when digging of road started,” a resident of Gali Khilonia, Dheeraj said
People alleged that concerned department at the time of starting the project had promised them to complete it with in two months going by the pace of work it may not complete for two years.
Locals and shopkeepers alleged that concerned department did not leveled the road and left it in dreadful condition due to which many potholes have come up.
Anita Verma local resident said that she broke her leg when her scooter slipped due to potholes on the road.
Many times, they appealed to local MLA about the matter but has been done so far.
They further said that dug up road has also hit the business of the area a lot and businessmen suffered huge losses. Sources in the administration said that there is no plan of government to complete this road soon and their main attention is towards those roads where there is frequent VIP movement is. Yash Kumar, local said that Divisional Commissioner made promise to them that the road will be repaired with in two months but nothing has been done so far.
Ajay Kapoor shopkeeper of Pacca Danga said that there is only dust and mud on the road and in rainy days there is only water which entered in their shops and destroyed their furniture worth of lakhs. He also added that children and old people were not able to walk on the road and many of them injured themselves.
Manik Kumar local of the area said that he was suffering from dust problem and was not able to inhale properly due to dust in the area.
BJP MLA (east) Ashok Khajuria said that the NBCC is the corrupt department which creates havoc to Jammuites, he further said that due to his efforts Jain bazaar road was repaired and now he went to administration and told them about the condition of Pacca Danga road in which administration made promise to him that the road will be repair and macadamize the road with in fifteen days.
When contacted Divisional Commissioner Jammu he was not available.
