Jammu, Nov 18: Finally, the winter sets in. The rush of a short spell of afternoon rain in the winter capital today has signaled the ushering of chill in the atmosphere with woolens immediately coming out with people here.
The beauty of the day was witnessed in different shades as early morning cool breeze though defied the Jammuites to brave for their work in half-sleeved shirts also which later turned into warm woolens in the evening as the intermittent rain in the afternoon and the overcast cloudy skies brought the chill into the atmosphere.
Though the arrival is being said to be little late but the further advent of the days are being predicted to be chilling ones as late arrivals of a season generally announces harsher weathers in the late.
In the morning school children were seen wearing full sleeves and woolens to provide warmth from unexpected weather.
Also the elderly and the tourists were seen wearing warmer clothes. People in their homes enjoyed hot beverages like tea and coffee.
Many were also seen sipping tea at reharis and tea-stalls.
While visiting the various markets of Jammu like Ragunath Bazar, Apsara Road and Citi Mall, it was found that various garments stores in these areas have put woolens on display and while talking with few of them confirmed that customers today were busy on shopping sprees.
The rain had brought cheers on the face of store owner of woolens at Ragunath Bazar, who suggested, "The timely rain will lead to full winter season and I am hopeful that this year there is going to be good sale of woolen clothes", and added, "In our store we have displayed all our woolen apparel line on the self".
Thanks to this year's good monsoon season resulting rains in abundance, the earth crest is still wet, which points that this year there is going to be a good winter season.
Though such attribute of the rain could be contributed to the western disturbances, yet the fact on this account cannot be denied that Western Disturbances occur frequently during the winter season.
However today's short lived rain and the evening chill has already signaled that the following sunny days would also be carrying some chill which amply suggests that the winters have set in finally.
"Every season has its own charm, provided it falls at the stipulated time. The global warming and the unprecedented transition in the climatic changes in the nature have shown very unpredictable cycle of seasons that have added into many ills and miseries of the people," said an octogenarian retired government employee recalling his good old days when change of seasons in Jammu used to be like festivities for the people.
However the present advent of winters too is being welcomed by all generations as children present more enthusiastic look. "Hot beverages and jalebi in chilling rains is my favourite," said Sahil Verma, chuckles class fifth student.
