Gang rape: One of the 3 govt officials arrested | Departmental inquiry initiated | | ET REPORT Jammu, Nov 18: One of the three government officials who allegedly gang raped a widow has been arrested by police from Nowshera area today while manhunt has been on to arrest the rest of the two absconders. Three government employees of sheep and husbandry department including a supervisor, a Flock Inspector and an accountant raped a widow last evening in the premises of government building at Nowshera in Rajouri. The accused had gone underground after the alleged incident and a hunt was on to nab them, police sources said. In the day long raid one Ram Gopal was arrested. Sources said supervisor Ram Gopal of Gagrote near Nowshera, Flock Inspector Pawan Gupta and accountant Satpal, both residents of Sunderbani, called Shakuntla Devi (40) to their office in Nowshera town last evening to help her get a job and a loan of Rs 1 lakh. The accused had promised a class-IV job in their department, the sources added. However, when she reached the office, the accused allegedly gangraped her in watchman's room and then fled the spot leaving her unconscious, sources said. The accused outraged her modesty under the influence of liquor, the sources added. The watch on resuming the duty late in the evening found the woman and informed police, who immediately rushed to the spot and shifted her to hospital. When she regained her consciousness, she narrated the incident to police. After she identified the accused, police registered a rape case against them under section 376 of RPC. Meanwhile, the department has initiated a probe into the incident. |
