Shiv Kumar Sharma pResident Water Works, (PHE) Employees Association Jammu province who is also INTUC President, thanked Hon’ble Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azaad and Qazi Mohd. Afzal, Minister for PHE & Irrigation for accepting the long pending demand of the PHE employees for which the PHE Unions and INTUC were struggling. In a statement issued here Sharma said that, today in a meeting held at Srinagar which was attended by PHE Minister and Commissioner Secretary PHE and President INTUC, three historic decisions Rupees 70/- per day will be paid to the employees engaged on wages of Rupees 450/-, 800/-,1300/- etc. All those employees engaged on community basis whose ouster order was issued by the government in the month of March, 2006 has been withdrawn. The demand for two and half days pay for extra work for PHE employees has also been accepted by the Hon’ble PHE Minister and referred to the Hon’ble Chief Minister for final approval, were taken. INTUC President said that the PHE unions have been struggling for their genuine demands for the last several years but nobody heard them and it as Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad who looked to the most burning problems of the employees at the lowest level who were paid nominal wages. Azad while addressing the largely attended rally of PHE unions in Jammu in the month of May. 2006 announced that the lowest level of employee will get at least Rupees 70/- per day. Today fulfilled his commitment for which PHE unions and INTUC have thanked Chief Minister.
