Jammu Frontier remains runners-up in BSF Athletics
Punjab Frontier lifts championship trophy

JAMMU, Nov 19: Punjab Frontier today clinched the overall championship on the basis of highest seven gold won in their tally in the four-day XXXIII Inter-Frontier Athletics Championship of the Border Security Force (BSF) held at BSF Stadium, Paloura here.
Although hosts Jammu Frontier clinched 17 medals as against just nine by champion Punjab, still latter was adjudged winner considering highest gold medals on the pattern of Olympics. Jammu’s medal tally included five gold, six silver and an equal number of bronze.
North Bengal Frontier remained at third position with three gold, three silver and three bronze medals won in different field and track events. Kashmir Frontier finished ninth in the medals’ tally with a silver medal. In all, 10 Frontiers of the BSF took part in this athletics meet.
Constable Sadhan Roy of North Bengal Frontier was declared best athlete for winning two gold medals in individual events of Long Jump and Discuss Throw.
Meanwhile, Jammu Frontier made a clean sweep in prestigious Decathlon event with Vikram Singh winning gold after having highest 5707 points. S Ravi Kumar (5330) and SR Jangu (4942) bagged second and third position respectively.
In the final of 4x400 meters Relay and valedictory function, Minister for Sports and Medical Education, R S Chib was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies amidst cultural programme by the students of BSF Senior Secondary School.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Inspector General of BSF Frontier Headquarters Jammu, Sidharth Chattopadhyaya gave a brief note of the four-day athletics meet to the distinguished gathering present.
Happy over colourful presentation by the students of BSF School, IGP declared holiday for entire school tomorrow.

20 kilometers Walk: Sandeep Kumar (1.43.52), Jammu, Ist; Khomeition Singh (1.48.15), A&M, 2nd and Sudhir Baliyan (1.53.48), Gujarat, third.
3000 mts Steeple: Jaswinder Singh (9.56.49), Jammu, Ist; Harpreet Singh (10.01.37), A&M, 2nd and Gokul Ch Ghosh (10.03.39), Tripura, third.
Long Jump: Sadhan Roy (6.85 mts), North Bengal, Ist; Satish Kumar (6.65 mts), Rajasthan, 2nd and Jasbir Singh (6.53 mts), Gujarat, third.
Discuss Throw: Sunil Kumar (46.09 mts), Rajasthan, Ist; Gurjohar Singh (42.26 mts), Punjab, 2nd and Ashok Kumar (41.31 mts), Rajasthan, third.
