Birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi celebrated across Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 19: To commemorate Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister of India late Indira Gandhi, Quami ekta week was inaugaurated here today as part of week long celebration in Government College for Women (GCW) Parade.
Function started with lightening of traditional lamp. Principal of College Dr. Kiran Bakshi was Chief Guest on the occasion. Principal, staff members, NSS Programme Officer, Prof. S.D.S.Jamwal, Prof. Sushma Mahajan, Prof. Shefali Gupta and NSS volunteers took national integration pledge. Patriotic songs enthralled the audience. In her address, Principal Dr. Kiran Bakshi taught students value of tolerance, co-existence and brotherhood in this multi cultural, multi-religious India.
Meanwhile, 93rd birth anniversary of Late Indira Gandhi leader was celebrated today with fervor in the congress Office at Shaheedi Chowk. Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Medical Education R.S.Chib, MLAs Indu Pawar, MLC Ravinder Sharma, Kuldeep Verma along with former Ministers Mangat Ram Sharma and Mula Ram, senior Congress leaders, Om Chopra, Thakur Hari Singh, Yash Paul Khajuria and Abdul Gani Kohli were among prominent personalities who paid floral tributes to great leader.
Remembering the great leader, Bhalla said that the nation also celebrates National Integration week all over the country from today. He highlighted various aspects of the life of the former prime Minister while describing her as leader of masses. He said that she stirred the nation towards development and prosperity with primary focus on the eradication of poverty.
Sham Lal Sharma while paying the floral tribute to great leader said that Gandhi was the first lady prime Minister of the India who worked hard for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society. He said that born with name of ‘Priyadarshini’, she remained true to the description, radiating ambience of rare charisma in her footsteps everywhere.
Chib also paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister and said that Gandhi always fought for the cause of poor sections of the society. He urged Congress workers to reach out to the masses and asked them to follow footprints of Indira Gandhi. He said that during her leadership, banks were nationalized and several schemes were launched to increase agriculture production in the country.
Similarly, a meeting of District Congress Committee (DCC) Udhampur was held under the chairmanship of Bhupinder Singh Pathania and Brij Mohan Sharma to celebrate 94th birthday of Late Indira Gandhi. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Geeta Khajuria, Surjoo Bhagat, Ved Parkash, Sham Samotra, Shankar Dass Saddotra, Sumeet Magotra, Rakesh Chander, Sachin Sharma, Girdhari Lal Basotra, Taro Devi, Arminder Singh, Dr. Jagdish Raj Prasher and Inayatullah Mini.
District Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Kathua also organized a programme to celebrate 93rd birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi at its district head office Kathua. On the occasion, MLC Subash Gupta, State Secretary JKPCC Manohar Singh, District General Secretary Bhupinder Singh (Pinku), District Vice-President Narinder Khajuria, District Secretary S.D Singh Chandel, Aradhana Andotra, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Youth congress R.S Pathania, ex-General Secretary Youth Congress Pankaj Basotra, Pranab and Rattan Chand Karotra paid rich tributes to departed leader.
Homage was paid to India’s first Prime Minister at Reasi by Maheshwar Singh Manhas in which former Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma was the Chief Guest. Ex-MLA Ram Dass Dogra presided over the meeting while Narinder Singh Raju was guest of honour. While paying rich tributes to the great leader of the country, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that Indira was and would continue to be source of inspiration for women of this country.
