KPs seek commission to probe exodus from Kashmir valley

JAMMU, Nov 19: All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) today demanded constitution of a commission for looking into the reasons which led to migration of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir valley in the 1990.
This demand was raked up by members of AIKS led by President Moti Kaul while interacting with Chief Interlocutor for J&K Daleep Padgoanker at the AIKS Headquarter in New Delhi today. In a handout issued here today, it has been stated that delegation comprised of M. L. Malla, M. K.Dhar, A. N. Kaul, Dr. Romesh Raina, Rakesh Gurkha and Sheen Handoo.
At the outset, Moti Kaul apprised Padgoanker about continued neglect of displaced KP community and the paramount need for political empowerment of the masses. He also gave him a detailed presentation of the problems faced by the Kashmiri Pandits during 20 years of their exile. In this context, he was informed about the in-ordinate delay in the enactment of the temples and shrines management bill in the state legislature which has resulted in encroachments on the land assets of these shrines.
Dr. Romesh Raina was of the opinion that a generation was born and brought up outside Kashmir during the last two decades and that they find no emotional connectivity with their State. M. L. Malla talked about the loss suffered by the KP displaced persons because of the encroachments on their lands and other properties including orchards and difficulties faced by affected persons to retrieve their properties.
M. K. Dhar pointed towards need for a commission to be set up to look into the reasons that led to the migration of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir in 1990. A. N. Kaul referred to the trauma caused by displacement of community from their roots and the need for creating an environment where under they could once again go back with honour and dignity and reinvent their ancient culture, customs and traditions.
Rakesh Gurkha explained problems faced by younger generation. Sheen Handoo talked about smaller issues affecting Kashmiri Pandits like measly monthly relief given to displaced people which does not meet even the basic requirements of the people.
Padgoanker heard patiently views enunciated by the delegation and said that effort of the interlocutors was to listen to every section of the society, understanding their view points and to find out possible solutions. He also assured the delegation that final opinion of interlocutors shall comprehensively deal with issues raised by displaced KP community.
