Jammu facing shortage of gas cylinders | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 19: Within week of the arrival of Durbar in Jammu, city in this season of marriages is facing extreme shortage of LPG cylinders. After the peaceful culmination of festival season, marriage season has begun. The onset of marriage season multiplies demand of gas cylinders. If the locals are to be believed, it is due to this reason that people are facing extreme shortage of gas cylinders. They have to wait for days together to get gas cylinders booked. A long queue of customers can be seen outside the shops of gas dealers on routine basis. Government has already passed the directions that for commercial usage, cylinders of 19.5 kg capacity should be used whereas for domestic purpose 14.50 kg should be used. The government has provided subsidy for the domestic gas cylinders so that they are not used commercially. There is no cut off for gas cylinders used for commercial purposes. But it is generally seen that whether it is domestic field or commercial, gas cylinders are used by the people incessantly. One of the buyers of the cylinders Naresh Kumar of Bikram Chowk complained that despite making strenuous efforts, they are finding it difficult to purchase gas cylinders. He also said that all the gas agencies are engaged in black marketing and the common people have to pay for this. He urged state government to check black marketing of cylinders and take strict actions against the culprits. When contacted, CAPD director Parvez Malik said that cylinders are provided for commercial and domestic purposes. He said that they have seized many illegal gas cylinders and are trying to keep a check on them.
