JAMMU, Nov 19: Even if you are not a police cop or a media person, it is not going to hold you from using insignias, stickers and labels of these professions on your vehicles as there is no check or restriction to prohibit the offenders from its open usage by the law enforcing agencies.
Despite police's claims and frequent drives to check the menace of blatant usage of stickers categorizing different professions on hundreds of vehicles particularly two wheelers plying on city roads, there are a large number of drivers and riders, who take a pride in flouting the set norms and procedures.
Widespread usage stickers by good chunk of people, who otherwise are not entitled to use the labels and logos of Police, Press, Advocate, Doctor or other government departments on their vehicles, are flaunting them openly there by making a mockery of the system.
The menace of unauthorized fixing of insignias, logos and stickers on vehicles showcasing wide range of professions have seen a rapid growth over the last few years and is going on without any stoppage.
"It is a very common sight to watch on city roads that vehicle owners including motorcyclists, scooter riders besides large number of four wheeler drivers have applied some or the other sticker of a particular profession on number plates or wind screens though most of them are not authenticated to use the same," a law student Naina said.
"The law enforcement agencies have failed to reign over such violators or to curb this menace…..." she added
It has often been observed not only here but in other parts of the country as well that on several occasions persons having criminal bent of mind used insignias, stickers and dark glasses to execute their anti-social activities as such things provide them a perfect alibi.
And things become more dangerous here in militancy infested state of Jammu & Kashmir where using these articles by anti-national elements could prove fatal.
"The persons, whosoever are using stickers and labels of various professions, whether entitled or not, are flaunting them to merely show off that we have got power," a police officer wishing anonymity said
"It is a well known fact that the criminals took advantage of such articles with the aim of throwing the police off track." he added
It is to recall that on December 13, 2001, five gunmen infiltrated the Parliament House, New Delhi in a car with Home Ministry and Parliament labels. Many Members of Parliament (MPs) and government officials were in the building at the time of the attack.
The gunmen, slammed their vehicle into the car of the then Vice President Krishan Kant, got out, and began firing their weapons.
In another incident, on July 13 last a person identified as Manmohan Singh hailing from New Delhi posed himself as the Adviser of the Prime Minister of India. After it came to lime light that the person was not a PM aide, he was arrested for his wicked act. He came here for the pilgrimage of holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and astonishingly his vehicle was fitted with beacon light, stickers of Press on windshield, Government of India on registration plate and Indian tricolor on a flag rod. |
