Alleging substandard blacktopping at Thathri, Niaz demands SVO probe
11/20/2010 8:51:11 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 20: Alleging that the pace of all development works was slow in the erstwhile Doda district, former power minister and MLA Mohammad Sharief Niaz today demanded a probe into the alleged substandard blacktopping of the Thathri-Kilotran road.
Addressing party workers at Gandoh in Thathri today, he alleged that the blacktopping of 9 km Thathri-Kilotran road was poor in quality. Niaz demanded a probe by the state vigilance organisation (SVO), saying it would help in unearthing the alleged fraud committed in the road construction.
He said it was the prime duty of the government to find out the people, including contractors and officials, who had "swindled the government exchequer in this remote area of the state". The former minister said he was astonished to find that no drains
had been constructed along the road.
He said the pace of development works, including the Bhalessa grid station, in the area was very slow while emphasising the need for accelerating it.The alignment of other roads, constructed under PMGSY, was not proper, he added, saying there was an emergent need to provide road link to all the villages in the area.
He said a special recruitment drive of police in Chilli and Bimalnag areas of the district was carried out in 2007, but the list of selected candidates had not been released as yet. "The selection list be released soon," he demanded. Expressing serious concern over the frequent power cuts in the area, he said there was no light in Gandoh and its adjoining areas for the past three days.
He also demanded free ration to those whose crops were damaged in the incessant rains during summers. "Fruits were also damaged due to the early snowing last month," he said and urged the government to compensate fruit growers too.
Earlier, he addressed public meetings at Alni, Gingota, Soti Chanda, Gwari and Ashel Dudwal.
