Symposium on new trends in material research held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Nov 20: The Indian Association of Solid State Chemists and Allied Scientists organized a national symposium on new trends in materials research at the ISCAS Institute of Solid State and Materials Science , Jammu University. About two hundred scientists /academia from various parts of the country participated in the programme. The symposium was inaugurated by renowned scientist from Indian Institutre of science , Banaglaore , Prof. KJ Rao . Prof. Rao appreciated the efforts of the Association ( ISCAS) for doing pioneering work in promoting research and teaching solid state chemistry and allied areas in the country . He exhorted the establishment of the ISCAS Institute of Solid State and Materials Science at Jammu University Campus was exemplary work of the Association under the leadership of Prof Indu Bhushan Sharma . He was of the opinion that the topics such as nanotechnology , energy storage amd conversion , nuclear materials , environmental monitoring , electrochemistry and other are of great relevance for the mankind and was sure that this symposium will contribute tremendously for enhancing research activity in the solid state in the country . Prof V.K. Manchanda , Head Radio Chemistry Division , Bhanaha Atomic Research centre Mumbai today delivered the key note address on “ Thorium as an abundant source of nuclear energy . He discussed in details the advantages and the challenges involved in the use of thorium in the nuclear reactors. Prof. Indu Bhushan Sharma , President , Indian Assosciation of Solid Chemists and Allied Scientists , highlighted the activities of the Assosciation and undertaken all over the country and the services provided by the ISCAS Institute of Solid State and Materials Science . Prof BL Sharma, convener of the National Symposium welcome the delegates while Prof M . Swaminathan , Vice President of the Assosciation , introduced the key note speaker and Prof G P Sachdev , Secretary ISCAS , proposed the vote of thanks .
