JAKFED celebrates ‘cooperative day’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu NOV 20: J&K Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (JAKFED) celebrated the ‘cooperative day’ at its complex. Minister of State (independent charge) Cooperatives, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was the chief guest while Vice Chairman J&K Kissan Advisory Board, Rach Pal Singh was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister congratulated the management and other staff of JAKFED for turning it into a profit making unit and advised that more professional approach is required so that JAKFED reaches to the new heights. He said JAKFED is making all efforts to import fertilizer, palmolein oil and pulses which will be supplied to the farmers and general masses on subsidized rates through its own outlets as well as cooperative societies. Elaborating on the board of Director’s decision, Dr Sharma said that JAKFED Plaza shall be constructed on the existing office of federation. “Due to paucity of funds the project will be undertaken in the public private partnership mode even a JAKFED Bazaar shall be opened in the Plaza where the general public will get consumer products on cheaper rates. He also emphasized that Board of Directors have also approved 50 JAKFED sales outlets to be opened by federation in the different parts of the state. Manohar also thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning of Rs 13 crores for seeds and Rs 2.5 crore for fertilizers buffer which would help in improving the agricultural production in the State. Earlier, in his inaugural welcome address, Managing Director JAKFED, Ravinder Gupta highlighted the achievements of the federation especially the expansion of its activities which resulted into it becoming a profit making unit after more than a decade. Rachpal Singh also congratulated the Minister for his astute leadership for turning federation into a profitable organization. He assured that J&K Kissan Advisory Board will play an important role between federation and the farmers of the state to ensure that the farmers get better services including fertilizers from the JAKFED.
