Soz likely to continue as PCC chief | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,Nov 20 :- Latest reports reveal that Saif-ud-Din Soz may be asked to continue to head the Pradesh Congress Committee. There is no fixed tenure for a PCC Chief and Soz will continue to lead the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir . Party sources said that in case Soz was picked up for induction in the Union Cabinet, during the cabinet expansion which is expected shortly, some senior member may be asked to head the PCC depending on his/her proximity with AICC chief, Sonia Gandhi. Sources said that there will not be any hurdle for Manmohan Singh to give berth to Soz in the union cabinet as he is a member of the Rajya Sabha. During the UPA Government's first session Soz had been the union Minister for Water Resources. According to sources, the Congress high command is satisfied with the overall performance of Soz and his contribution towards strengthening of the organization in the state. Meanwhile, the rank and file of the Congress in the state seems to resent the initial decision of the party high command to allow Omar Abdullah to head the coalition government for full six-year term. Senior Congress leaders favour repetition of the arrangement that existed between the Congress and the PDP between 2002 and 2008.During those six years the state has had Chief Ministers by rotation. Mufti Sayed headed the government for the first three years and Ghulam Nabi Azad replaced him for the next three years. These congress functionaries want Omar to be told to be ready to leave space for a senior Congress leader. However, neither Farooq Abdullah nor Omar Abdullah are willing to accept this proposal. Omar believes that for showing results the Chief Minister should be allowed to complete six years otherwise there will be political and administrative confusion of the type that was witnessed between 2002 and 2008. However, senor Congress leaders are of the opinion that the 2002-2008 political arrangement proved better than the existing arrangement. Political experts believe the chances of Omar completing full term depend on the ground situation. “If he is able to improve the political and the security scenario he may not be disturbed. But if he failed to deliver he may lose the seat of the Chief Ministership even before the expiry of three years.”
