MVD squads check 350 vehicles , 16 challaned | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, NOV 20- Regional Transport Officer, Jammu along with Assistant Regional Transport Officers, Jammu and Samba conducted a surprise checking of various vehicles on the National Highway from Satwari to Samba and Mansar Morh to Battal Dhar Road for overloading, road violations, display of number plates/passenger fare list, first aid kits and other violations of Motor Vehicles Act. During the course of checking, about 350 vehicles were checked, out of which 16 vehicles were challaned and 85 compounded on the spot and compound money to the tune of Rs.2.70 lakh was realized. A special drive for vehicles plying from Jammu to Jhiri Mela for overcharging/overloading and other violations under Motor Vehicles Act was also conducted by a team deputed by RTO, Jammu from 4 am till late evening to facilitate the devotees visiting Jhiri Mela. The vehicle operators/drivers were warned not to make violation of Motor Vehicles Act and Rules in future. They were further advised to adhere to the instructions issued by the State Transport Authority from time to time regarding display of passenger fare list, reservation of seats for women/physically handicapped, 50% concession to students, exhibiting of registration number plates and non-playing of music system etc.
