All is not well within coalition, Cong facing embarrassing situation with NC's role | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 20: All is not well in the functioning of the state collation as the Congress is not happy with the style of functioning of its alliance partner National Conference and statements of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Though Congress has not publicly came out against the Chief Minister's style of functioning and his recent controversial statements but the concern shown by the senior functionaries of the Party at a function organized on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi here today has revealed that the Party is facing embarrassing situation in public with the NC's style of work. The vice president of the Party, Dharam Paul Sharma who chaired the function as former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma who was to preside over it had to leave the venue earlier due to his pre-occupation showed his total dissatisfaction over the role of NC saying it ahs created an embarrassing situation for Congress. He alleged that the Party leadership as well as Congress ministers have failed to take a stand in Coordination Committee and Cabinet meetings against NC's style of function. Sharma said that coalition has created an embarrassing situation for the Party. A misunderstanding has been created between the Party functionaries and the ministers in view of the statements of the NC leadership and lenient view taken by the Congress ministers. He said to put the record straight he has suggested the PCC chief to convene a meeting of senior functionaries of the party and the ministers in this regard. Taking a serious view of the role of the NC he alleged that the Party is converting all official functions into NC functions and it never invites the Congress leaders in these official functions. This is a serious issue. Earlier reacting to the statement of the former Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma that there should be rotational Chief Minister after three years, Minister of Medical Education and Sports, R S Chib said that Congress is being weakened by its own men. He alleged that no Congress activist bothers to attend the functions of Congress ministers and so they are dependent on NC activists who in large numbers make their presence felt in these functions. He said the simple reason for this is that the Congress activists are not happy with their ministers. He, while reacting to the statement of Mangat Ram Sharma that there should be a rotational Chief Minister said that every thing is possible once Party is strong and united. Maintaining that Congress activists and Party is more important than the ministers. Chib asked the Party men to summon all the ministers some day to Party office and seek replies from all queries you want to have to remove the misconception if any. He said if Partymen attend the official functions it adds to the honour of Congress ministers and they feel elated as the Ministers have no value without the party and its activists. Earlier the style of functioning of the coalition came to a criticism from Mangat Ram Sharma and other senior functionaries of the Party who also asked that the ministers from Congress should exert themselves instead of toeing the NC way. |
