Local bodies has a pivotal role in the socio-economic development: Dy CM

Srinagar, Nov 21- Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand while appreciating the work executed under ILC projects where quantum of execution has risen from 5 percent to 60 percent during last six months, emphasized for 100 percent execution so that poor people of the valley are benefitted through the scheme. He also onspot awarded Sumbal, Hajin Executive Officer for 100 percent completion of ILC projects in his area.
Underscoring the need for completing all the under execution works taken up by local bodies units across the valley, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand said that completion of works within the stipulated time positively benefits the common man and also improves the image of the government.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a meeting of officers of Local Bodies Department, Kashmir here today. Minister of State for Housing and urban Development, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Director Local Bodies, Kashmir, Khawaja Farooq Renzushah and special secretaries, Housing and Urban Development besides other officers attended the meeting.
Mr. Tara Chand impressed upon the officers to conduct field visits to monitor the ongoing works and its quality adding that any officer and official found irresponsible would face action under rules. He directed the executing agencies to speed up the work taken in hand under NURM. The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed the executive officers of Local Bodies department to take up works in their respective areas only when the works are approved by the respective MLAs and the cheques under ILC should be distributed among the beneficiaries in presence of MLAs and MLCs of the respective constituencies. He also asked the concerned officers to clear all the pending cases particularly with regard to financial assistance to the deserving beneficiaries within ten days and also directed Additional Deputy Commissioners to step up the verification process of such cases immediately.
Mr.Tara Chand said Local Bodies have a pivotal role in the development of towns and the executing agencies should prepare comprehensive plans. He said Local Bodies agencies could change the socio-economic standard of the people living in the towns for which Central Government has provided funds liberally and now it is our responsibility to utilize these in a judicious manner.
