| Army Chief presents President’s Colours to 17th JAKLI | | | UDHAMPUR- NOV-03- General J J Singh Chief of the Army Staff presented President’s Colours to Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment 17th Bn at a grand and tumultuous ceremonial parade held at JAKLI Regimental Centre at Rengreth near Srinagar. The Army Chief handed over the Colours (Nishann) on behalf of the President of India to Major Vineet Tomar of 17th JAKLI. The rare honour of presenting ‘Colours’ to the elite Battalion was in recognition to the distinguished service and sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of the Battalion ever since its raising on March 1,2003. Earlier, the Army Chief, GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, A S Sekhon, GOC 14 Corps and other senior serving and retired Army Officers laid wreath at the Regimental War Memorial followed by a sound of ‘last post’, a touching tribute was paid by observing two minutes silence. The Army Chief also released the First Day Cover amidst thunderous applause and interacted with the gallant soldiers and families of troops.
