| Several villages still lack road connectivity | | |
The ill-conceived planning for the development of hilly Doda district has given birth to many problems. Though the facilities and the infrastructure have been created but regrettable no manpower provided for its maintenance and smooth functioning. Be it a college, school, hospital or even a dispensary, the manpower is missing to run these institutions, created for the benefit and comforts of the general public.
The District headquarters has been presenting an ugly look in absence of proper civic amenities. However, thanks to the present Municipal Committee President the things have started changing though slowly and steadily.
The roads and lanes have been cleared from the accumulated garbage and proper system evolved for its speedy disposal. Every thing is possible provided one has the will and the guts to do it. The present President soon after taking over ordered cleaning of roads and lanes and giving a facelift to the district headquarters. The paralyzed civic unit has been activated and made responsible for ensuring cleanliness at the district headquarters.
Though the general public has by and large expressed its happiness over the functioning of the Municipal Committee but felt the need for taking other issues on priority. The issues being raised include road connectivity; imperative for the development of the area. Expressing their dismay over the neglect of the District in the past as a result of which vast area has remained unconnected despite 60 years of Independence. The people are demanding road connectively in villages like Dessa, Dhandal, Kastigarh, Bulandpur, Kulhand Juddi, Ranka and Trown, which are cut off from rest of the district.
The people are expressing their concern over non- availability of adequate staff in educational institutions and say that despite repeated pleas the government has done nothing concrete in this regard so far. Citing the example of Degree College, it is being said that it lacks proper accommodation apart from the staff causing much inconvenience to the student community. The Principal, though an honest and strong administrator, cannot shape the institution with out dedicated and sufficient staff, library and lababoratory. The aspect also needs to be taken care of if the government really means to achieve cent percent literacy and provide the best possible facilities to the students, the future of the country.
Same is the case with the District hospital, where only one Gynecologist was posted against the sanctioned strength of two but regrettably the lone Gynecologist too has been shifted to Jammu. If this is the state of affairs, the people have every right to voice its demands. Though all infrastructures are available but what lacks is the manpower. The Hospital has no Children Specialists and other Specialists. To cope with the ever- increasing vehicular rush, the work on the proposed Ganpat Bridge over river Chenab needs to be taken in hand with out losing any further time.
The demand to open Himalayan University in Doda town is also being voiced by the people of the area.
The construction of Doda –Dessa- Kapran -Anantnag road, besides providing shortest alternative lifeline to Kashmir valley, would help to connect a vast populous area spread over Anantnag and Doda districts. This would also open an attractive scenic area to the tourists, trekkers and nature lovers, the people feel.
