| Bid to smuggle sheep, chicken into Valley foiled, 10 trucks seized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 22: Foiling a smuggling bid, CAPD officials and police last night seized 10 trucks, loaded with sheep and chicken, in south Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. A senior CAPD officer said acting on a tip-off that some traders were illegally importing sheep and chicken into Kashmir without licenses and other documents, a naka was established at Lower Monda last night. He said during the checking, four trucks of sheep and six of chicken were seized. The trucks were at Khanabal in Anantnag district, he said, adding a case had been registered in this connection. Hundreds of sheeps and goats were being transported to Kashmir from different northern states, particularly Delhi and Rajasthan, everyday. Official sources said more than 5,000 sheeps and goats were consumed daily by the people in Kashmir. "The number goes up during marriage and festival season," the sources added.Similarly, more than 30,000 chickens are also consumed in Kashmir daily.
