| It's not state, but Govt is shining | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 22: If recent advertisement of the state government in all the local dailies of the state is to be believed, the state is marching ahead considerably towards progress. But things are not as bright as shown in the advertisement. As per the advertisement, the state of Jammu and Kashmir is first in providing Primary Health facilities, first in implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme (MGNREGA), third in Macro Economy, 4th in providing Primary Education, and 4th in providing better Investment Environment. It is nothing but just an image building of the beleaguered Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and wastage of taxpayer’s money. One can imagine government’s expenditure of full page advertisement in all the local news papers. Any society can be judged with its health, and the state of Jammu and Kashmir is far behind in this respect. In state’s one of the biggest children hospital that is SMGS Hospital, Shalamar, more than two patients share a single bed. Even poor people have to buy drugs from the market. There are dozens of primary schools without teachers and even without proper infrastructure in entire length and breadth of the state. Even a primary school near the official residence of Chief Minister in winter capital is without building. The school is running in rented accommodation. As far as MGNREGA is concerned, complaints in its deficiencies are a norm rather than exception. Concerned officials are busy in filling up their coffers. Genuine people are not given employment under MGNREGA in many cases. For example in Surara Panchayat in district Kathua, construction work was done with the help of JCB machine, when it is strictly prohibited to get the work done with machines. Industrial sector is facing the brunt of worst condition of law and order in the state. In this scenario, question arises that how investors could ever think of investing in the state. If the facts given in the advertisement regarding the development of the state, in the newspapers are true, one can imagine the condition of other states of the country.
