| ISBT still a distant dream for Jammuites | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 21: With the onset of winter and arrival of Civil Secretariat here, the life has become hell around bus stand for general public due to traffic jams mainly because of increase in vehicular movement and unauthorised parking of buses and other vehicles on ever busy B C Road. However, the State Government has yet to develop a proper Inter State Bus Stand on the modern pattern.
It is rather a practice of private bus operators to park their buses on the road rather than taking them inside the Bus Stand. Whereas, the concerned authorities was not doing anything for maintainence of the parking order in and around the bus stand and its beautification. All the inter- state buses also use BC Road as parking slot instead of using the inside the Bus Stand. It is a long pending demand of the people that government should either construct a modern Bus Stand on the pattern of Inter State Bus Terminals (ISBT) constructed in other states or streamline the system to maintain the order. The transport department had shifted the Bus stand of R.S. Pura to a bus stand at Nehru Market to ease the pressure on the General Bus Stand but the problem remains the same and still continuing. Locals alleged that there was no proper stand for mini and other buses, owing to which passengers from different areas facing a lot problem. When contacted, Jammu Development Authority (JDA) Chairman, Vinod sharma said they were taking steps to maintain bus stands and had sent a proposal to transport commissioner to make the alternative arrangement for those who park buses outside the Bus Stand.
