| Maharaja Gulab Singh Extension road still out of bound for commuters | | *Road will be repaired soon: MLA Khajuria | | EARLY TIMES ROPORT

JAMMU, Nov 22: After the lapse of around one and a half year, stretch of Maharaja Gulab Singh Extension road which was dug out for laying sewerage pipe lines by NBCC authorities, is still lying in a decrepit condition.
Following public outrage, the rest of the portion of Samadhian road which connects with this road was recently repaired by the administration for smooth movement of traffic especially the VIP cavalcades, the work on this stretch has been stalled, to the great inconvenience of both commuters as well as the inhabitants of adjoining localities.
The locals alleged that the concerned department left the work midways because this stretch is not for VIP vehicular movement. Not only this as the road has been left in dug out state, the layers of dust and the wide ditches have become a permanent nuisance for the users of this road.
The most irksome fact is that despite repeated reminders to the concerned authorities by the locals and the assurances given by the former, there were no signs of resumption of work so far.
People of the area alleged that many a time they approached concerning department but in return they got only fake promises. Given the layers of dust, this unfinished stretch has also become a source of dust-related serious health problems. While ditches pose serious
threat to the commuters, mainly two-wheeler riders, who at times, use this stretch to shorten the distance. In the past few months many two-wheeler riders have sustained injuries when their scooter or motor-bikes slipped while negotiating ditches.
Balwinder Singh, a local shopkeeper, said that “due to layers of dust this stretch has become a permanent source of dust related serious health hazards. Every day when he opens the shop, it is full of dust. It takes him at least two hours to clean up the shop”.
When contacted MLA (East) Ashok Khajuria said that being elected representative, it was imperative on his part to take up the matter with the administration and now it is their duty to take effective and immediate steps to solve the problem.
Khajuria informed that he had already talked to administration about the problem of Maharaja Gulab Singh Extension road and administration made a promise that it will repair this road in December month. He further added that due to his efforts, the administration is ready to repair the road connecting Pacca Danga chowk with Chowk Chabutra from coming Wednesday night.
