EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Nov 22: Five persons were today arrested by police in Rajouri for bringing Ambuja cement from Punjab in contravention to the J&K sales tax (ST) rules. Police sources identified the accused as Jarnail Singh, son of Mukhtiar Singh of Sheikupur Manjeeri in Pathankote, Pawan Gill, son of Gopal of Sapwal, Samba, Bodh Raj, son of Parkash of Ambi Karkhara in Pathankote, Ajay Singh, son of Inder Singh of Bajwal, Kathua, and Sheru, son of Bishan of Ambi Kharkhara. Sources said on a complaint filed by Ambuja marketing manager, Jammu circle, that illegal cement transportation was taking place in contravention to the ST rules from Punjab to J&K in connivance with some local traders, police swung into action and seized three truckloads of cement in Rajouri. The seized trucks (8739/JK02R, 1439/JK02X and 4239/JK08B) were loaded with 1,190 cement bags, the sources added. While the cost of a Ambuja cement bag in Punjab was between Rs 263 to 267, it cost Rs 365 in Jammu. Police had registered a case in this connection against the accused. |
