Annual ‘SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan’ enthralls music connoisseurs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Nov 23: The annual festival by SaMaPa was organized recently at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi in collaboration with ICCR, IFFCO, Delhi Tourism, Deptt. of Art, Culture &Languages, Delhi Govt, J&K Bank, Ozone Group and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The two day music festival featured performances by Ragini Rainu (Sufi Vocal), Abhay Rustum Sopori (Santoor), Dr. Raja – Radha Reddy (Kuchipudi Dance), Dr. N. Rajam (Violin), Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Malini Awasthi, Zareena Begum, Shounak Abhisheki, Keemti Lal (Vocal), Purbayan Chatterjee (Sitar), Rakesh Chaurasia (Flute) amongst others. The festival also featured a Painting exhibition by the artists from Jammu and Kashmir. This year the prestigious SaMaPa awards were given to 4 personalities for their lifetime contribution to Indian music and culture in their respective fields. The Grand Award of SaMaPa, the SaMaPa Vitasta Award 2010 was presented to Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (Hindustani Classical Music - Sarod) and Dr. N. Rajam (Hindustani Classical Music - Violin). SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Award 2010 was presented to Abdul Rashid Qureshi (Pahari & Gojri Music) and SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman 2010 was presented to Dr Mukesh Garg (Music Critic & Musicologist). The festival saw the presence of various eminent personalities from various spheres of life like musicians, artists, politicians, Bureaucrats, Educationist, art and music critics and a number of music connoisseurs of the country including BL Joshi, Governor Uttar Pradesh, Dr Farooq Abdullah (Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy), Padmashri Shameem Azad, Suresh Goel (DG ICCR), Jawhar Sircar (Secretary Culture, Govt. of India), Jugal Kishore, Zafar Iqbal Manhas and others. SaMaPa, the “Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts”, under the aegis of its Chairman, the Santoor legend and music composer, Padmashri Pandit Bhajan Sopori, has emerged as a cultural movement acclaimed as the cultural bridge of the State of Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country. SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan is not only the top most festival of Delhi but also one of the most prestigious music festivals of the country. SaMaPa is a prestigious platform for the young talented musicians to present themselves along with the stalwarts of Indian Classical Music.
