Omar silent over youth's death in police "encounter" | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 23: The "historical" double standards adopted by the Kashmiri rulers while dealing with situations in Kashmir and Jammu regions have become more evident with chief minister Omar Abdullah not uttering a single word on the killing of Rakesh Singh Giri in the alleged police encounter near Satyam Resorts here Sunday. Had this been an incident of Kashmir, he would have definitely reacted to it. His silence in this case hints at the double standards adopted by his government in dealing with the situations in the two regions. Though on the advice of his seniors in politics, including PCC chief Saifudin Soz, Omar remains updated with the functioning of government agencies through video conferencing, he seems to have ignored Jammu by not asking police to apprise him of the facts in the Giri encounter. While he sits in winter capital city, he remains unconcerned with the developments here. The general feeling here is that he is not at all bothered about Jammuites and the issues concerning them. This was the right time when he should intervene in the Giri incident to bring the facts to light. |
