| Present coalition govt worst ever dispensation: Prof Chaman | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 24: Describing the present coalition of the National Conference and that of the Congress a worst ever dispensation this State ever had, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta observed that the latest survey of a Magazine, India Today, claiming many achievements of Omar Government, is illusionary and far from ground realities. Addressing a meeting of the party activists of his Jammu West Assembly Constituency, Prof Gupta said much is being publicized though Government advertisements and other propaganda mill that Omar led Coalition has achieved wonders but the facts are quite different and the problems facing the people have been compounded in addition to the dangers to the unity and integrity of the country have assumed alarming proportions. He recalled that this very Magazine in 2005, had given first prize to Jammu and Kashmir on the claims that the then coalition of the PDP-Congress had eradicated the poverty from the State to the extent that the people living below the poverty line (BPL) has come down to the extent of less than four percent. But the fact remains that even today the State is receiving the BPL rations and other assistance for over 40 per cent of the total population, which is highest in the country. Even the survey conducted by the State’s own Directorate of Economics and Statics, has put this BPL list at about 25 per cent. Referring to the continuing turmoil in the Valley for the past over five months now has added more pains and sufferings to the people but it was strange that a propaganda mill has been set in motion to project the young Chief Minister as the biggest performer that this State had ever found. Prof Gupta further said that highly controversial utterances of the Chief Minister, especially describing the future of the State as “dispute” and then formulating a rehabilitation policy for the ultras, are quite surprising which are bound to add more problems. In the meeting, the preparations for making three hours’ Chaka Jam on Nov 27 a success, was also discussed.
