| Ambitious Urban development projects launched to modernize towns: DCM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 24 -Reiterating government resolve to develop towns and cities on modern lines, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that in order to upgrade facilities ambitious urban development projects have been taken up in local bodies across the state. He said with the completion of these projects towns would be equipped with latest urban facilities. The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a high level meeting of senior officers and functionaries of Local Bodies department, here today. A detailed review of projects which have been taken up in different towns under UIDSSMT, IHSDP, and Solid Waste Management etc. was done in the meeting. Among others the meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department Suresh Kumar, Director, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu F.C.Bhagat and other senior officers and engineers of the department. Reviewing progress of various development works undertaken by the department, Tara Chand said different projects have been taken up for all round development of towns and funds have been specifically earmarked for the same. Adequate funding is being provided by Centre as well as state government and now it is up to the executing agencies to make sure that funds are properly utilized in a time bound manner, he added. He further said that timely completion is a pre-requisite for these projects and no delay would be tolerated. Stressing on resource augmentation, Tara Chand said there is a strong need to enhance income generation capabilities of Local Bodies and self reliance should be the objective of these bodies, adding that proper charges should be levied for the services which are being provided to the city inhabitants. Taking note of the difficulties executing officers face while acquiring land for different projects, Tara Chand directed that District administration should be sensitized about the time bound nature of projects and wherever required the cases should be directly followed with District Development Commissioner for early acquisition of land.
