| Message from Bihar: J&K Cong must stop flirting with NC | | | RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 24: The politically conscious people of Bihar have given their verdict. They have rejected all those who used to preach and practice fake secularism; those who used to pit one section of society against another; those who used to set the followers of one religion against another; those who used to promote caste politics; and those who would not even mind bartering national interests and compromising secularism and democracy for the sake of personal power and profit. In other words, the electorate has decimated the Rashatriya Janta Dal (RJD) of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Lokjan Shakti Party (LJP) of Ramvilas Paswan. Yadav-Paswan combine has failed to retain the number of seats they had won in 2005. They have captured just 25 seats. The most significant aspect is the humiliating defeat of Lalu's wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in both the constituencies where she tried her luck. Lalu's brother-in-law Sadhu Yadav and his wife have also lost the election. They contested election on the Congress ticket. The politically awakened voters of Bihar have rejected with contempt all the candidates, barring one, fielded by the Left parties. They have also not accepted the Congress despite the fact that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi campaigned aggressively. The Congress tally has come down from 9 to 4 and its vote share has also shrunk by one per cent. It has obtained only 8 per cent of the total votes polled. It is the worst ever performance of the Congress party in Bihar. Commenting on the defeat of the Congress, the AICC chief has said the "Congress will start from scratch in the state." Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati, too, has been decimated. It has captured just one seat. In contrast, the Janata Dal - United (JD-U) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which again contested elections together, have captured as many 208 seats in a house of 243. It's a splendid victory. It's a landslide victory. They have won the elections hands down. Bihar has at no point of time during all these years of independence witnessed such an election. It is not a negative vote. It is a positive vote. It is a vote for development. It is a vote against the caste politics and social and communal harmony and against the politics of fake secularism and fake democracy. It is not just a vote for development and against those who used to create schism in the society in the name of fake secularism and fake democracy for the sake of vote bank politics, but it is also a vote for the national sentiment - national sentiment that stands outraged because of the weak-kneed policies against subversive forces. The Bihar verdict has a message for the Congress party in general and Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee (JKPCC) in particular. The message is that the JKPCC must review its stand on the state as well as issue of governance. To be more exact, the message from Bihar is that it is time for it to stop pursing policies similar to the ones which were pursued by the Non-JD-U and non-BJP parties in Bihar. Another message is that it should stop flirting with parties like the National Conference (NC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The Congress is a national party. Its agenda needs to be nation-centric. Its association with parties like the NC and the PDP is against national sentiment. The nation wants the Congress to act tough in J&K and not allow the NC to implement its separatist and communal agenda and ignore the people of Jammu and Ladakh. It would be only appropriate to point out that the association of the Congress with the NC is proving rather costly for the former. There are reasons to believe that if elections are held today in the state, the Congress would bite dust in the manner it, like the RJD, the LJP, the BSP and the Left parties, did today in Bihar. The situation has climaxed to the point that even the Congress workers have started taking such a view. They appear totally fed up with the party leadership and ministers who have been dancing to the tunes of NC. |
