| ET newspaper harassed, baseless cases slapped | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 24: Call it an irony or paradox of the claims, the state government is going against the grain of what it calls for 'professionalism' in the Police Department. For harassment and threatening tactics are the only tools which the Police force are using to crush and cover its own (mis)deeds while dealing with crime, at least in Jammu. Worse, not even media is spared in their tactics to cover up their acts of omission and commission. While the incident of so called Giri encounter is being questioned and contested by the media, the Early Times newspaper which is the only English daily to have brazenly tried to expose police claims, is now being harassed on the pre text of some baseless cases registered against it in recent past. Police recently registered some case against the newspaper which was based on false and baseless allegations. While the ET management has justified and proved it not being guilty in the matter, the Police is now once again trying to harass the Newspaper by reviving various sections under which the case was slapped. Ironically indeed, only today the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah underlined the need to make J&K Police a modern and professional force in the country so that it could render 'best' service to the people. Omar's call for professionalism is surely in contrast to what Police is doing and how it is dealing with even media which is duty bound to stick to professional ethics. |
