Voters showed way to Lalu and others in Bihar | | Balbir Ram | 11/25/2010 7:42:49 PM |
| Results of the 243 assembly constituencies of Bihar declared on November 24 are the indicator of the voter’s mood for giving yet another chance to Nitish Kumar to rule the state for next five years also so that he may complete the pending works and start new projects with a dream of seeing Bihar as a developed State instead of being humiliated by calling it an under developed one, the stigma it had to face during the rule of Lalu Prasad Yadav. It is also an indicator that majority of people have realized that they were wrong when they used to return Lalu Prasad Yadav to power. The results of these polls have also proved that people of Bihar prefer development and maintenance of law and order instead of bringing back the dynastic rule of Lalu’s family. Out of a total of 243 seats, the Janata Dal (United) & Bharatiya Janata Party combine of NDA registered splendid victory by wining 206 seats. A number of television channels and newspapers throughout the country were in unanimity when they said that the voters of Bihar has rejected the politics of caste and religion and voted for peace, stability and development. The Janata Dal (United)- BJP combine ruled the state for last five years. Earlier, the state was ruled by Rashtriya Janata Dal with Lalu Prasad Yadav or his wife Rabri Devi as the Chief Minister. 15 years is a very long period to prove one’s ability and concern for the masses. During all these 15 years, a very popular proverb emerged for Bihar. People used to call as Jungle Raaj in Bihar. There was uncertainty every where. Every day there were reports of arson, loot, rape, dacoity, murders. It seemed that there existed no government and the writ of the criminals worked in Bihar. The image of an ordinary Bihari in other parts of the country was like that of a criminal, to whom people did not like to engage for any work or trust him. There were no job avenues, development was on papers and there was all time high corruption in the state. Corruption cases like Fodder Scam shook the whole nation. Despite being elected for 3 consecutive terms, the Lalu Prasad Yadav led dispensations failed to come upto the expectations of the people. The law and order situation can be well judged from the fact that no outsider chose to set up industry or invest in any field any where in Bihar. During these years, Lalu Prasad Yadav was seen more concerned for the welfare of his family and relatives rather than concentrating on the developmental activities. It was assumed that Lalu’s era have no dusk. In these results, the Congress too had to bite the dust and face humiliation. It could not touch 2 figures despite the facts that the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the so-called Yuva Chehra of the Congress Rahul Gandhi left no stone unturned to charge Nitish Kumar of not utilizing the central funds for development works. The campaign of mother-son invited clappings only but on ground there was no one to trust what they were saying in public rallies during the election campaigning in different parts of Bihar. It may be so because neither Sonia nor Rahul uttered a single word of non-utilization of central funds in Bihar during five years and when they did not have any concrete and effective plan or programme to offer to the voters, attempts were made to mislead them, but all in vain. The people of Bihar had long experience of 15 years rule of Lalu family and five years rule of JD(U)-BJP alliance. Camparing both, the voters concluded that it was the present government which took effective steps to maintain law & order, provide security to life and property, use funds for development, work for the upliftment and welfare of women and so on. Nitish Kumar is not a magician with a magic wand to change things in a second. The only thing which took him to new heights in politics is his determination, commitment and zeal to work honestly and make optimum use of the available funds and resources, keeping in view the plight and needs of a common Bihari, irrespective of his creed, colour, sex or political affiliation.
