Educational tour under Op Sadhbhavna concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 25: For master Manish Kumar, a class VI student and 23 other young boys from Government Primary and Higher Secondary Schools at Gurha Talab, Gharota and Sunail in Akhnoor tehsil, the rest of India seemed distant and far away - a two hour bus ride to Jammu and an overnight train journey thereafter to the nearest big city. In the words of Sourabh “Education to me has always meant memorizing. I sailed through tests because I could listen well and reproduce lessons and information, when it mattered. I always wanted to learn more, more than what the books described and what I had answered in the test”. The opportunity came, when the local Army unit under then Brigade of Crossed Swords Division, as part of Op Sadbhavna, organised an educational tour to the national capital Delhi, Agra and important cities of Rajasthan for these youngsters. The aim of the tour was to showcase to the young boys the cultural heritage, diversity and co-existence in the rest of the country. Visiting and seeing important places, historical monuments, archeological sites, artefacts, the people and other landmarks described in the textbooks, awakened them to life in a way they had never imagined. The excitement amongst the group was palpable as they visited the famous Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Lotus Temple in Delhi, Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri in Agra and Hawa Mahal and Jai Mahal in Jaipur and other places of interest in Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner.
