Transport dept earns Rs 63.36 cr revenue | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, November 25-Govenrment has realized a revenue of Rs 63.36 crore through Transport Department during the current financial year so far in the shape of taxes and fee from transporters. This was revealed at a high level officers’ meeting convened today to review the functioning of transport department with Minister for Transport and CA&PD, Qamar Ali Akhoon in chair. Minister of State for CA&PD, Sahbir Ahmad Khan was also present in the meeting. Besides, Secretary Transport and CA&PD, Pardeep Gupta, Transport Commissioner, Dr. Syed Fazalullah, Joint Transport Commissioner, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Dy. Transport Commissioner, Bumesh Sharma, RTOs and ARTOs of Jammu division attended the meeting. The meeting was informed that during the current year upto ending September, 36,238 vehicles have been registered by the department -23,935 in Jammu division and 12,203 in Kashmir division. It was also apprised that, 45,318 driving licenses have been issued up to October this year, of which, 2,452 are commercial and 42,866 are non commercial. The meeting was told that 8 offices of RTOs and ARTOs at Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramulla, Leh and Budgam have been computerized and in the second phase offices of Doda, Poonch, Kargil, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara are being computerized for which Rs 64 lakh stands released by the Government. The remaining offices of newly created districts are being taken up in 3rd phase. Addressing the meeting, Akhoon stressed upon the officers to adopt method of quick disposal of the cases so that people get more and more facilities from the department. He said that keeping in view of the interests of people, the Government will shortly implement passenger welfare scheme in the department, under which kith and kins of those persons, who die in vehicular mishaps will get Rs one lakh and the injured would be given upto Rs 50,000. Speaking on the occasion, Shabir Ahmad Khan asked the RTOs and ARTOs to gear up their men and machinery at ground level and streamline transport services. He asked them to check seriously the fare charged by the bus operators and over-loading to avoid mishaps in the State. Power point presentation was demonstrated by Dy.
