Expert group to explore employment opportunities for youth: Rangarajan

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 25- The expert group of Government of India headed by its Chairman, Dr. C. Rangarajan on Thursday convened a high level meeting to discuss matters relating to formation of comprehensive employment plan for youth of the state.
The Rangarajan Committee has been constituted by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh to explore employment opportunities for the youth of the state.
Chief Secretary, S. S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Khurshid Ganai, Principal Secretary, Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B.B. Vyas, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Chairman, Federation of Industries and President AOI, T. S. Reen, Co-Chairman, Federation of Industries and President BBIA, Annil Suri and Chairman, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Y. V. Sharma were present in the meeting.
Rangarajan, while speaking on the occasion, said that high power committee is in the state to explore the possibilities of increasing employment opportunities for the youth.
He said yesterday the committee held meetings with the representatives of Agriculture and Horticulture at Srinagar and also had a meeting with the Chief Minister.
Meanwhuile, the expert committee today convened a meeting with the representatives of Industries and Chamber of Commerce for exploring the possibilities of increasing employment opportunities in all the sectors He said that Committee will also examine the scope of creating employment avenues outside the state for the local youth.
The Committee will submit its report to the Government of India after hectic deliberation at New Delhi.
The Industrialist representatives demanded refund of 100 per cent Central Excise Duty, all incentives to existing industrial units, income tax exemption to the existing units, restoration of grace period,. They also suggested that state youth be employed in Central PSUs, one time grant for land acquisition, development of power grid to feed industrial units and transport subsidy on finished goods etc.
