TIJAC resents FC department’s move to construct bund | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 25: The Sarpanchs, Panchs and members of Tawi Island Joint Action Committee (TIJAC) of Satwari block have expressed their resentment against the Flood Control Department. Addressing media persons here today, they said that the people of Satwari block were against the Flood Control Department, who was intended to construct Earthen Bund from Karnaley Chak to Nandani, left bank of River Wadi Tawi reducing the existing width of Tawi. They apprehended that due to reduction of River Wadi Tawi, the impact of flood water will hit the areas of Nikki Tawi and there will be every possibility of breach in the proposed bund, which will pose a threat to the lives and properties of the people living in the said area. They further said that the people have decided to take this issue to a logical end and will not allow the department to encroach upon the existing width of the Tawi. They appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene into this matter and matter may be thoroughly scrutinized by a panel of retired Chief Engineers of the same department. Satya Pal Sharma - Sarpanch, Mandal, Sodagar Singh Saini, Sarpanch (Chhanni Nanak), Paramjeet Singh –Sarpanch (Khandwal), Bharu Ram - Sarpanch (Haripur), Swam Lal Sarpanch (Top Manhasan), Nihal Singh, Sarpanch (Sohanjana), Thakur Dass- Sarpanch ( Makwal), Raghubir Singh Manhas, President Tawi Island Welfare Committee and others were present in the press conference.
