Sagar joins chorus, declares JK a disputed territory | What about ratification of accession by CA? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 25: National Conference leader and state's the Law Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar today urged the separatist and the pro-Indian organizations to join hands for resolution of Kashmir dispute. However, people by and large were not impressed. They want NC leaders to reject ratification of accession by Constituent Assembly. Sagar was speaking at a meeting held to finalize the arrangements in connection with Sher-e-Kashmir's 105th birth anniversary which falls on December 5. Sagar said: "National Conference has kept the Kashmir dispute alive for the past sixty-three years. Being the representative organization of Jammu Kashmir, It (NC) has to play a vital role in the resolution of the dispute. The separatists alone cannot solve it. All of us must unite to ensure resolution of the long pending dispute", he said. Sagar while challenging totality of accession said Kashmir is a dispute for all practical purposes. "Nobody can deny this harsh reality", he said. Praising Omar Abdullah for his efforts aimed at `Kashmir resolution', Sagar said: "It is because of Omar Abdullah's efforts that the union Home Minister described Kashmir a special issue that needs special consideration." Mustafa Kamal who also addressed the meeting lashed out at New Delhi for `creating confusion'. He also resented appointment of interlocutors. However, a vigilant Sagar lost no time to come issue a disclaimer. "Views expressed by Kamal are his own and not that of National Conference", he made clear. Surprisingly the separatist camp did not pay much heed to Sagar's comments. "They are playing games to gain support of the public", said a separatist preferring anonymity. "If Omar Abdullah, Sagar, Kamal and others mean what they have been saying for the past three months, let them reject ratification of accession by the Constituent Assembly. This is litmus test for them", he said. Interestingly, Omar Abdullah while addressing the Legislative Assembly went to the extent of describing Kashmir as an international dispute. He, however, remained silent over Constituent Assembly's ratification of accession. Pertinent to mention, the Constituent Assembly ratified accession on February 6, 1954 by a majority vote with Abdul Gani Goni being the only member to oppose the motion.
