| Women unsafe in police raaj; 24 cases of abduction, rape registered in 3 months | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 25: There has been a sudden increase in crime against women in Jammu. In the past three months, 24 cases of abduction and rape have been registered here.
Not only this, women feel unsafe to wear gold jewellery during night due to the fear of chain snatchers.
On August 15, the body of 8-year-old daughter of a labourer was recovered from Shastri Nagar area. During police investigation, it became known that she was raped and murdered allegedly by her neighbour.
On August 21, Nargis (12), daughter of Shoukat Ali, was abducted from Panjgrian, Nagrota, and her whereabouts were still unknown. On the same day, three youth abducted a minor girl in Vijaypur area of Samba and then outraged her modesty. The accused were later arrested by police.
On August 20, a minor girl was abducted from outside her residence at Trikuta Nagar.
On August 23, a man had made an abortive bid to rape a safai karamchari at Raghunath ji temple. The woman was saved by some people.
On August 26, two girl students were abducted by some youth and taken to some unknown place. On the same day, a 12th class student had outraged the modesty of a minor girl at Gulamechak in Pounichak area.
On August 28, a man had tried to rape a woman at Rehari. The accused was later apprehended by police.On September 7, some youth had made an attempt to abduct a girl at Qasim Nagar. The accused had fled after several people gathered
there hearing the girl's screams.
On September 26, two sons of a police officer had abducted a girl from general bus stand area, taken her to their quarter at police lines and raped her for two days. The girl hailed from Chandigarh.
On October 4, a youth forced his entry in a house at Pir Mitha and
attempted to rape a woman. A day later, four brothers abducted a girl from Chinore Farm area of Kanhachak.
On October 6, a youth abducted an 8th class girl from Akhnoor. The girl was later recovered from Ludhiana.On October 21, a youth entered the house of the brother of a senior police officer at Mohalla Daru Gira and teased a woman.
An MCA student of Jammu University was abducted on October 22 by some youth and taken to some unknown place. A case in this connection stands registered at the Domana police station.
On October 26, two youth abducted a man and his wife from Kunjwani and took them to a retired army officer's house at Sunjwan where they raped the woman.A girl of Palampur was abducted by a youth on October 27 and taken to a house at Bhatindi where she was raped.
On October 28, a woman cop was teased by a youth in a minibus at Miran Sahib.On October 31, a youth had abducted a girl from Rajouri and kept her at Miran Sahib for several days.
On November 11, two youth had locked a girl in a room at Bari Brahmana and raped her for several days.
On November 12, a minor was abducted by two youth from Pangai in Nagrota. Another girl was abducted from Digiana on November 16.
On November 17, two youth tried to outrage the modesty of a girl at Valmiki Colony, Gandhi Nagar.
On November 17, three employees of sheep and animal husbandry department had raped a woman inside the office choukidar's quarter at Nowshera.
On November 18, two guards of SMGS hospital were held for teasing a girl inside the hospital premises.
On November 19, an army jawan had abducted a girl at Bishnah and later raped her.
In some cases, accused were arrested, but in others, there was no clue of the accused and the girls.
