Himachal comfortable against J&K
NZ Vijay Merchant U-16 tourney
11/26/2010 10:12:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, November 26: With brilliant innings of half centuries played by the openers, visiting Himachal Pradesh were in a comfortable position against Jammu and Kashmir in the North Zone Vijay Merchant under-16 cricket tournament underway at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
When the stumps were drawn, Himachal were playing at 140 for the loss of one wicket in 34.5 overs in reply to host J&K’s 146 all out on the opening day.
While S K Minhas was batting at 57, A K Bains lost his wicket to Paras Sharma at 79. The controversial J&K side which has just three boys from Jammu and all eight short listed from valley in playing XI made a bad start with first three batsmen went to the pavilion contributing only 26 runs.
However, Paras Sharma stayed on the wicket and helped his side to bring the score to a respectable total of 146. He made 65 runs. Among other batsmen, Usman Pandit was highest scorer with 18 runs while six others failed to touch the double figure mark.
In fact, J&K could not field a completive team after 15 out of 19 boys short listed from Jammu wing by the selectors were termed overage in a `bone test’ conducted by the team of doctors at Government Medical College Hospital on the request of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) yesterday.
Finding it difficult to even raise a 12-member team for the match, J&K added all three already registered players with BCCI from Jammu and called other two to make them 12th and reserve player.
However, if the eye witnesses are to be believed, a number of boys from Kashmir in playing XI seem to be overage. Interestingly, the Kashmir wing of the JKCA has done the bone test of their eight short listed boys in Kashmir itself that too from `some private doctors’ and not at `government hospital’.
