Cabinet reshuffle, expansion may be deferred | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,Nov 26: Indications are that neither the Congress high command nor the National Conference leadership is in a hurry to fill the three vacant seats in the council of ministers headed by Omar Abdullah. Under the rules the strength of the ministry is supposed to be 25 and before G.M.Saroori was asked to quit the total number of ministers was 23 leaving two seats vacant. After Saroori's exit one more seat has fallen vacant raising the number to three. Congress legislators have been trying to secure high command's support for including one of them in the cabinet to fill the post which fell vacant after Saroori's exit. The high command is yet indecisive because more than three Congress legislators aspire for berth in the cabinet. Reports said that the party high command is worried over the tussle between the loyalists and the dissidents in the state unit of the party and as such it does not want to aggravate the problem by picking one among the loyalists for a cabinet post. Party sources said that of the three vacant cabinet posts congress expects a share of two and the remaining one seat is the share of National Conference. What seems to have caused dismay in the Congress high command is the way number of congress ministers have been trying to secure the portfolio of roads and Buildings(R&B).The high command is intrigued when senior cabinet ministers, including those having been allotted key portfolios, were aspiring for he R&B portfolio. In view of these developments both the Congress high command and the NC leadership have decided to keep cabinet expansion in abeyance for some time as they are monitoring the performance of each member of the council of ministers. Once the monitoring excise was complete the leadership of the two par ties will finalize cabinet reshuffle and expansion
