Seminar on constitutional rights of under trials organised | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAMBAN, Nov 26: ‘Law Day’ was celebrated in District Court Complex Ramban by organizing a seminar on the protection of constitutional rights of under trials here today. The progtramme was organised under the Chairmanship of Bala Jyoti (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Chairperson District Legal Services Authority on the said occasion a seminar on “Role of District Judiciary in Protecting the Constitutional Rights of Undertrials” was organized wherein Additional District Magistrate (Additional Dy. Commissioner) Ramban Ajay Singh Jamwal was the guest of Honour and DSP Ramban A.R Mushtaq, Advocates, Judicial Officers, Executive Magistrates, Law Students and Police Officers participated and spoke on the occasion. While speaking in a seminar on a Law Day and with respect to constitutional rights of under trials Jyoti emphasized the need for speedy trial of under trials. She also stressed on the need to focus on reduction of arrears/pendency of cases of under trials with the concerted efforts of bars and bench and also of jail authorities. She regretted for inconvenience of under trials because of inadequate infrastructure for lodging of under trials as neither is a district jail nor a sub jail in newly created district Ramban, there by causing much hardships to the under trial. She also regretted for undue delay which render the common man’s knock on the temple of justice a frustrating experience. She further said while addressing the gathering that delays compel under trials to suffer imprisonment for an agonizingly longer time than what the law prescribes.
