Kissan Mela-cum- exhibition organised | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 26: Kissan Mela-cum- exhibition under "Support to Extension Programme for Extension Reforms" was organized by Agricultural Technology agency District Samba at village Kangwal Rehiyan of Block Purmandal today. MLA Yash Pal Kundal inaugurated the Mela in which about 600 farmers participated with 1200 no of exhibits. The Agriculture wing of the Command Area and other allied departments displayed the r stalls in which every department demonstrated the technical interventions and income generating schemes for the welfare of farming community. Dr S S Jamwal Chief Agricuiture Officer CAD Jammu/Samba welcomed the Chief Guest, Other dignitaries and farmers in the mela. He stressed the need of adaption of latest technical know how for increasing production and productivity of crops and vegetables by diversified farming. Vash Pal Kundal while speaking on the occasion exhorted the farmers to take the benefit of new technological interventions. He also highlighted that these melas act as platform where the farmers of different blocks interact with each other and inculcate better practices of farming which yield better results. Director Command Area Development, Jammu, Nirmal Sharma appealed the farmers to avail maximum benefit of the schemes lying with the department for the betterment of the farming community. Various scientists from the SKUAST and technical experts from the department also interacted with the farmers in Kissan Ghoshti and showed various new techniques to increase the yield of various crops and how they can increase their income by adopting diversified farming. A mobile soil testing laboratory of the agriculture department was also part of the mela. Soil samples brought by the farmers were tested on the spot.
