| Bihar has emerged as a new laboratory of Indian politics and hats off to the electorate of Bihar who have crowned performance and rewarded honesty, a trend setter; they have emerged, for the pattern and the fate of future elections of our country. They have emerged matured enough to write off and contemptuously discard caste politics, appeasement politics and politics of empty rhetoric laced with imaginary accusations. They have not allowed the good work done by their leader Nitish to get frittered away and have made Kumar sweep the Bihar polls and discard politics of Lallu Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan and Congress, lock stock and barrel.
The voter of Bihar has demonstrated the value, the meaning and the power of the vote. Lallu Prasad may call the verdict as "mysterious" and "magical" and "so called " to be unraveled by him in due course but that being the reaction of the vanquished , the fact remains that this verdict has taught a lesson to those politicians who care the least for the people, to change themselves and learn to perform and show good governance..
Various TV Channels made projections for JDU - BJP combine to bag as many as between 169 to 175 seats which was promptly contested by Lallu Ji and declared that RJD - LJP combine was poised to form the government in Bihar. Lallu even feared that such projections were aimed at "influencing" the counting process. This all proved as a figment of imagination.
Nitish is back with a thumping majority , breaking all previous records of any Chief Minister including Karpoori Thakur. Nitish revolutionized the concept of governance, gave new meaning to performance. The word "Bihari" had become a bete-noire for people as if something unwanted but he got the people of Bihar regain the "pride" of being 'Biharis". He infused a sense of pride in belonging to this state . Bihari Nationalism started getting recognition and strength. Nitish Kumar never indulged in promoting any particular caste or region and his governance resulted in the complete and remarkable turnaround of Bihar, average Bihari started feeling secure, migration of working force due to the terror of politically patronized "Bahu Balis" , extortionists and mafia stopped.
During the reign of over 4 years, Nitish was instrumental in building as many as 2300 KMs of roads. A state where development even for the name sake, under Lallu - Rabri rule of 15 years, did not exist, Nitish thought development, spoke development , did development and saw real development in Bihar attaining an annual growth rate of over 11%. He has rightly earned the name of Vikas Purush or developmental man.
His arch rivals were many , they increased in number which included not only Lallu Prasad, Ram Vilas Paswan but even Rajiv Ranjan Singh or Lalan Singh, Prabhu Nath Singh and Shivanand Tiwari who had been his close associates. To this list can also be included Rahul Gandhi with his imaginary ideas of " two Indias" and what not.
Nitish Kumar did not shed mere crocodile tears for the most neglected and deprived and his various schemes resulted in the facilitation of the upliftment of the most deprived sections of the society and his concept of "Mahadalits" was made functional in real sense to ensure that they were duly taken care of .
The greatest challenge faced by Nitish Kumar was to contain the dilapidated and defunct law and order machinery, the local armed groups or "militia" fighting with one another, the fights between the upper caste and the lower caste with political backing , business community on the brink of shifting business outside Bihar etc. , which Nitish tackled with all the seriousness and dexterity. The Kosi incident of 2008 of such a magnitude was ably handled by him.
Nitish and his team paid preferred attention towards women taking active part in the process of development. Bicycles to school / college going girls and due share to women in Panchayats proved his words matching with action . Though the popularity graph of RJD LJP was constantly plummeting low, both Lallu Prasad and Paswan had practically nothing better to offer or any concrete promises to make to the voters as they have had in the past belied their hopes and expectations. Lallu Ji , thus was seen fighting in this election for his very survival and eventually proved as a public entertainer while Nitish as an entrepreneur in the political horizon of Bihar. The litmus test proved a damp squib for Rahul Gandhi as well. Congress should go in for deep introspection and never try to woo the voters like by the PM saying " Hamara Paise" to have been misutilised.
This historic election has given its verdict indirectly against the cancer of corruption , the spate of scams and defalcations, losses caused to state coffers due to various omissions and commissions by a few leaders, numerous acts of nepotism and non performance being helplessly but indignantly witnessed across the country.
Nitish has, with all humility, accepted the historic verdict of the voters of Bihar and said, "let us not look backwards but look ahead , we have been returned because of performance and performance alone is our motto." With 3/4th majority in the Vidhan Sabha , he has definitely a great job to perform on fronts like tackling floods, improving the generation of electricity, intensifying laying of educational infrastructure , health , getting industry back to Bihar etc.
Non performers, under performers , scammers and spoilers should similarly be rejected else where by the electorate as they have been in Bihar. Democracy has the potential of revolutionizing the concept of governance as proved in Bihar. Let this message travel fast across the country. The voter cannot be treated as granted now any more as seen by every one in Bihar. |
