EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 27: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) sponsored three hour bandh and chakka jam evoked a mixed response in Jammu city and other parts of the province.
Normal life was partially affected due to a three-hour 'chakka jam' called by BJP.
Shouting slogans against the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and demanding his ouster from the highest office women activists of BJP Saturday remained at the fore front of the 3 hour long protest against the utterances of Chief Minister questioning the status of the state with the union of India.
According to reports, between 8-11 am the public and private transport was off the roads and shops and business establishments remained closed, affecting the normal life.
There was very thin attendance in government offices, banks and educational institutions due to lack of transport facilities.
The BJP activists also burnt effigies of government at several places to register their protest and warned the state government against making provocative and insensitive statements.
"We are protesting against Omar Abdullah led coalition government. First the Chief Minister questioned the status of the state and now he has approved rehabilitation policy for youths who went to PoK for arms training" BJP leaders said.
"We will not tolerate such appeasement policy", women activists told reporters after they alleged they were manhandled by the police force in the absence of women policy.

The women activists also staged protest dharna after disrupting traffic near Tawi bridge. Meanwhile BJP activists and supporters held demonstrations at several other places and demanded that chief minister Omar Abdullah withdraw his statement on accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
"The agitation passed off peacefully. There was no untoward incident reported from anywhere during the period of three hours," a police spokesperson said.
"There was complete bandh today for three hours in protest against the statement of Omar on the floor of Assembly last month over accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India and also against return andrehabilitation of the militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," BJP state president Shamshir Singh Manhas told reporters here.
Manhas said, "BJP warns the Chief Minister not to compete with secessionists by making statements about the status of Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference and Omar is 'in competition' not only with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but with separatists to become champion of Kashmir-centric approach
“The people of Jammu have displayed unity by observing complete ‘Jammu bandh—Chakka Jam’ for three hours. This bandh has send clear message to the government that the people will not tolerate disrespect to the Constitution and discrimination with Jammu, Manhas added
Shamsher Singh Manhas, while expressing gratitude to the people of whole of Jammu province for their full support to the bandh call of the party, said that today’s three hours bandh was in continuation of the programmes being chalked out to register protest against such developments in the state which are unconstitutional and in no way healthy for the national cause.
He declared that the party activists will hold protest demonstrations and burn the effigies of the UPA and State Chief Minister from December first to seven at Mandal levels through out the State as next phase of our agitation.
Besides Jammu, complete and peaceful bandh was observed in Kishtwar, Udhampur, Samba, R S Pura, Kathua, Akhnoor, Rajouri, Reasi, Katra, Basohli, Kathua and Ramban. Of 500 activists arrested from different parts of Jammu province, prominent among them were Chander Parkash Ganga, Anil Gupta, Pawan Gupta, Som Raj Khajuria, Rajiv Jasrotia, Surinder Sharma, Vibodh Gupta, Munish Sharma, Karan Singh, Dina Nath Bhagat, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Yogesh Sharma, Keshav Dutt, Durga Dass (MLA), Munish Khajuria, Ajit Angral, Ramesh Kumar Anil Mahajan, Chander Mohan Gupta, Krishan Lal Gupta, Dr. Mohan Lal Gupta, Rashpal Verma, Prashant Puri, Parveen Kumar and Vijay Kumar.
