Smokers caught, fined | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 27: One elderly person namely Haji Ghulam Mohammed Dar S/o Mohammed Qasim R/o Hasanabad was caught smoking in the waiting hall of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir’s office and a fine of Rs 200 was recovered from him. Mohammed Yaqoob Malik S/o Mohammed Sikander Malik posted as Patwari and Abdul Ahad S/o Ghulam Ahmed R/o Tankipora were also caught smoking in the canteen of DC office and imposed a fine of Rs 200 each.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon had constituted a special anti-tobacco squad headed by Shabir Ahmed Lone, Food Inspector Srinagar, alongwith representatives from Health department Police officials and NGO volunteers.
The special squad caught one person Mohammed Zaffar S/o Abdul Rafiq R/o Bemina smoking outside Government Degree College Bemina and Rs 200 were recovered as fine from him, on spot. The squad also caught nine persons namely Mohammed Akbar Khan, Sheikh Ab Rashid, Ghulam Hassan Kumar, Farooq Ahmed Bhat, Ghulam Mohammed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Malla, Abdul Majid Bhat, Mohammed Shaban and Javid Raja who were smoking in SMHS hospital. A fine of Rs 1600 was recovered from them.
Smoking in public places has been banned by Government under Cigarette and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003 (COPTA).
