| Let Congress high command tell Azad to wind up his shop in J&K | | |

Jammu,November 27:- When a muslim,Saba Zaffar,won the Assembly election in Bihar on the BJP ticket it clearly indicated that the heir apparent,Rahul Gandhi's bid to capture the mind of the minorities in one of the most backward states of India had failed.In addition to this the BJP was a bigger gainer even than the JD-U as it had secured more seats than it had got in the 2005 election.One of the reasons was that it got solid support from the voters in the muslim dominated areas in Bihar.
That the Congress in general and Rahul Gandhi in particular got a drubbing in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly election where the party,which heads the coalition Government in the centre,won four seats out of 243.Voters,particularly muslims,were not enthused by Rahul's tactics of wearing an Islamic cap on the day of Eid which he wanted to use as a symbol of secular credentials of the Congress.Yes,the muslims in Bihar had been influenced by the BJP's latest make-over mode by linking itself with a secular JDU leader,Nitish Kumar.And rightly the BJP accepted Nitish Kumar's suggestion on keeping Gujarat Chief Minister,Narendra Modi,out of the poll campaign.
The Congress high command continues to defend Rahul by making people believe that the AICC General secretary had been able to win over the youth in Bihar.But another reason for the Congress drubbing was the way the PCC ledership was changed in Bihar during the elections and party tickets were allotted to outsiders,those who were not active members of the Congress.This had given rise to a severe conflict between the loyalists and the dissidents.Reports say that some dissidents were seen lobbying in favour of non-Congress candidates.
In the context of this development in Bihar the Congress high command need to revise its policy vis=a-vis the party unit in Jammu and Kashmir.It needs to review the party's alliance with the Naional Conference and find out the reasons for the Congress to play the second fiddle to the party headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah in general and Chief Minister,Omar Abdullah,in particular.
As a result of continued support of Rahul Gandhi to Omar Abdullah the leadership of the state unit of the Congress has been forced to r emain on the defensive lest it should annoy the AICC general secretary.This has to be changed if Sonia Gandhi wants to save the Congress in the troubled state.Besides this Sonia may have been taking the conflict between the loyalists and the dissidents in Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress lightly but she cannot afford to ignore it for a longer period.She should keep Bihar poll results in her mind while adopting new policy on tackling the problem of factionalism in the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
No doubt the state unit of the BJP is not free of factional feuds,it should not encourage the Congress leadership to take things lightly.Well there is an alternative for the disgruntled Congress workers and leaders to have another platform by joining either the National Conference or the PDP.Once this happens it could turn out to be a swan song for the Congress. The Congress high command is not to move about with a swrod in its hand scaring away the dissidents.It simply has to prevail upon the Union Health Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad,to wind up his shop that he has opened in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of dissidents(eom)
