Early Times Report
Jammu: Indicating ‘all is not well’ between the two alliance partners of coalition in J&K, the Coordination Committee meeting has been postponed once again for next few days. After over five months, the meeting of the coordination panel was scheduled for tomorrow. Interestingly both NC as well as Congress parties are attributing postponement this time due to the pre occupation of leaders of their own parties.
“The meeting has been postponed because of Congress this time……..some leaders who are members were busy for Sunday which is why the meeting has been deferred….there is no other reason for postponement”, said Prof Saif-U-Din Soz, President of J&K PCC, who is the Chairman of the high level forum said while speaking to Early Times. In fact my own political pre occupations has pushed further delay by few days, he added.
Maintaining that convening of the meeting of this panel had become over due now, Prof Soz , apparently trying to tone down the rumours of NC’s ‘unhappiness and discomfiture’ in the political corridors said that both NC as well as Congress were keen and willing to hold it as early as possible to discuss certain important matters. The veteran Congress leader said while the final agenda of the meeting has not been decided as yet but it was certain that Panchayat polls would occupy the main plank of the meeting, it being the issue that concerns both the alliance partners equally.
The members of the Coordination panel would discuss and decide how both partners would go about while contesting the polls on non party basis, the PCC chief said, adding though there are few more issues that needed to be taken up to clear them with unanimity. He said though both the partners have made up their mind to hold panchayat polls on non party basis, yet a final go ahead signal coupled with certain core matters needed to be given by the coordination panel. There are no issues about postponement….the meeting will be held in Jammu within three to four days, he asserted.
On the other hand sources within NC said that meeting has been postponed due to pre occupation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also member of the Coordination committee. Sources also indicate that Omar is not inclined the attend the meeting this time and may eventually pull out from the panel for certain reasons. Sources said though his non availability has been attributed to postponement, Congress and some NC leaders as well are trying to get him on board at least this time in the meeting to ward off the impression which may fuel speculations of friction or differences between the two alliance partners.
