| Court acquitts ` Charas’ Smuggler after 8 yrs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov: 29 (JNF):- Second Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Vinod Chatterji Koul acquitted one Rattan Lal who was arrested by the Bahu-Fort police on February 20, 2003 during the checking and found that accused was in possession of charas 175 grm and a case was registered u/s 20 NPDS Act and after completion of the investigation challan was presented in the Court of law.
The court after hearing both the sides, observed that considering the evidence on record, the prosecution has failed to prove the charge against the accused. The perusal of the evidence and record on the file shows that during the investigation, the provisions of the act have not been followed, there is no evidence to hold accused guilty of the offence for which he has been charged as such accused is acquitted and challan is dismissed.
